We are dedicated to offering legal services in a timely manner that adheres to the highest standards of integrity and excellence

Wide range of legal practices

We proudly represent many of the world’s largest corporations and organisations, as well as small to medium-sized companies, and our 70 partners are established pathfinders and thought leaders in their respective practice areas.

Family Mediation

Family Mediation is a way of solving disputes between you and your ex-partner, by working together to ensure that beneficial decisions are made on behalf of each of you. At Lux & Veritas International, our experienced family mediator will meet with you and your ex-partner, both individually and together, to discuss your thoughts and disputes. We will guide you towards making amicable agreements through a series of meetings, the number of which can differ depending on the number of issues to settle.

Our family mediation solicitor will recommend finding appropriate legal advice throughout the mediation process. Family mediation is intended to provide a safe and impartial alternative to making decisions. The mediator cannot provide advice to either party, however they can impart legal information should you require it. It is encouraged that you also appoint a qualified solicitor to work with you, especially towards the end of the process so that they can write up your agreements which can then be incorporated into a formal separation agreement or court order as appropriate.

Divorce Cases

You now have more choice than ever on how to carry out your divorce. Whilst the options now include cheap, quick online divorce services it’s important for you to know what’s not included in such basic packages. These services typically only include the costs of documentation. Little or no advice is given, leaving you to make significant, far-reaching decisions by yourself, with little or no legal knowledge.

So how do you benefit from getting specialist legal advice? Unravelling years of marriage is not simple – especially if there are children, property, joint assets or pensions involved. Even in an uncontested divorce – one which both parties agree to – negotiating a settlement, childcare arrangements or division of assets on your own is far from easy. If you get things wrong, you’ll only find out when it’s too late.

Our Family Law specialists have many years’ experience of managing even the most complicated divorces. They can help you anticipate what you need to plan for in the future and ensure that your settlement is a fair one that meets your future needs as closely as possible.

Change of Name Cases

In United Kingdom there are no restrictions on changing your name, unlike many other countries. This means that you can simply start using the name you wish and it is legally considered your name through usage. However, this is not the case if you are changing your name with intent to defraud or mislead which has significant implications.

Adoption Cases

Adoption is when a child is legally placed in the care of non-biological parents for their wellbeing and they are no longer a member of their birth family. The same legal rights then apply to the family as they do to biological parents and children. Anyone over the age of 21 can be eligible to adopt, provided that they can provide a stable environment and life for a child.

There are different types of adoption depending on individual circumstances. You are able to adopt a child locally or internationally, as well as adopting whether you are a blood relative or not. You are also able to provide a stable home for a child up until they are eighteen years of age to prevent them being moved around care homes. If you are unsure about adoption and the procedure, it is best that you contact our family law team as soon as possible for the advice you need.

Child Maintenance

Child maintenance is an arrangement between you and the other parent of your child. It covers how your child’s living costs will be paid for when one of the parents no longer live with them.

Both parties are responsible for the costs of raising their children, even if they do not see them or spend time with them.

An amicable agreement can sometimes be made between both parents on how much money should be provided. This agreement can be flexible and could include matters such as payments for child care provision and nursery fees, school uniforms, breakfast clubs and after school clubs. Child maintenance is usually paid up until the child reaches 16 years of age, unless they continue in full-time education.

Domestic Violence Cases

The UK Government defines domestic violence asany incident or pattern of incidents of controlling, coercive, threatening behaviour, violence or abuse between those aged 16 or over who are, or have been, intimate partners or family members regardless of gender or sexuality.”

When people think of domestic abuse, it is easy to just think of physical abuse, however it is not limited to this. It can also be psychological and emotional abuse. This could involve acts of verbal abuse, threatening behaviour, online abuse, and harassment among other forms. It can be directed towards any person of any social group, class, race, lifestyle, disability and religion. Any kind of manipulation or coercive behaviour is not acceptable in a relationship and as such, you should contact someone for support immediately if you have suffered abuse for your own wellbeing and safety.

  • Drafting leases
  • Heads of terms
  • Break clauses
  • Schedules of dilapidation
  • Rent reviews
  • Lease renewals

We understand that commercial property leases can be complex, even for experienced landlords and commercial property owners, so we will explain everything in straightforward language, helping you to cut through the jargon and understand exactly what the lease on your property entails.

Leases for Tenants

If you are starting a business, you will no doubt be worried about the expenses involved with a property and instructing a solicitor. However, we work to ensure that we negotiate the best deal possible for you from your landlord and we will cut down the costs where possible so that you get the best value for money and the highest level of service.

Our skilled team will go through the terms of your lease thoroughly so that everything is in order and you are protected as much as possible. Landlords could try to shift the responsibility for repairs to the property over to you, therefore you may want a survey of the property before you enter the contract. This aspect of a lease is one of the most frequently contested issues.

We can also advise you on your term of lease. A ‘term’ is a set number of years that the lease will last for, so you may be renting for one term or more. You should consider how long you will need or be able to afford before signing a lease. We can help you with this and any other matters that you may be concerned about.
